• “The deceitfulness of riches”: wealth (and the pursuit of it) falsely promising security, identity, and control—quietly replacing reliance on YAH.
• Result — “chokes the word”: these thorns steal space, attention, and nourishment until the word becomes unfruitful (no mature, lasting fruit).

Plain summary: Thorns = worries + the pull of riches/comfort competing with the word until it can’t produce fruit.

Matthew 13:23 (NKJV) — “good ground”

• Receptive and softened: a heart that isn’t hardened; willing to yield to truth.
• Cleared of hindrances: not dominated by stones (shallow hardness) or thorns (competing cares/loves); there is room for the word to grow.
• Hears and understands: not just listening, but receiving with discernment and agreement.
• Deep enough for roots: the word becomes inwardly established (conviction, endurance, stability).
• Fruit-ready: produces lasting fruit—obedience, character, perseverance, and increase (some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred).
