The book of Ruth beautifully illustrates the relationship between Christ and His Church, with Ruth representing the Bride and Boaz representing Christ as the Kinsman-Redeemer.

1. Ruth the Foreigner

• Ruth was a Moabite: She was an outsider to Israel, a Gentile who had no claim to the covenant promises.
• The Church is made up of Gentiles: Like Ruth, the Church was once "far off" (Ephesians 2:13), strangers to the covenants of promise, but has been brought near through Christ.

2. Naomi as the Link

• Naomi represents Israel: Through Naomi, Ruth learned about the God of Israel and was brought into relationship with Him.
• Israel brought the knowledge of YAHUAH to the nations: Through Israel came the Scriptures, the prophets, and ultimately the Messiah (Romans 9:4-5).

3. Ruth's Declaration of Commitment

4. Boaz the Kinsman-Redeemer

• Boaz had the right to redeem: He was a near kinsman with the legal right and resources to redeem Naomi's property and marry Ruth.
• Christ is our Redeemer: Jesus became flesh (our kinsman) to redeem us. He had to become human to be our Redeemer (Hebrews 2:14-17).
• Boaz was willing: Though another kinsman was nearer, he was unwilling. Boaz stepped forward with joy.
