Repentance (definition)

Repentance (Hebrew: “turn/return”) is a heart-and-mind turning back to YAHUAH that shows up as an actual change of direction in how you live.

• Turning/returning: Malachi 3:7; Zechariah 1:3
• Forsaking wicked ways: Isaiah 55:7
• Confessing and not hiding sin: Proverbs 28:13; Leviticus 26:40–42
• A broken/contrite heart (not just outward show): Psalm 51:17; Joel 2:12–13
• Fruit/obedience that matches the turning: Luke 3:8; Matthew 3:8; Acts 26:20

Effects of sin (how sin hinders connection with YAHUAH)

• Sin separates: Isaiah 59:1–2
• Breaks fellowship / blocks prayer: Psalm 66:18; John 9:31; 1 Peter 3:7
• Grieves the Ruach: Isaiah 63:10; Ephesians 4:30
• Brings bondage: John 8:34; Romans 6:16
• Produces death: Romans 6:23; James 1:14–15; Ezekiel 18:20
• Removes peace and brings inner trouble: Isaiah 57:20–21; Psalm 32:3–5
• Invites discipline (for YAH’s children): Hebrews 12:5–11
• Opens the door to curses/affliction when Torah is rejected (corporate + personal patterns): Deuteronomy 28:15, 20; Proverbs 14:34
• Can cause YAH to withhold protection/provision until there is turning back: Deuteronomy 31:16–18; Judges 2:11–15; Haggai 1:5–11
• Can lead to being “given over” to one’s chosen path when persistently rejected: Romans 1:24, 26, 28
