The fear of man refers to being overly concerned about what others think, allowing their opinions and approval to control our actions and decisions rather than trusting in God.
"The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe."
This verse clearly warns that fearing people creates a trap that ensnares us, while trusting in the LORD provides safety and freedom.
"I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, and of the son of a man who will be made like grass?"
God reminds us of the temporary nature of human beings and questions why we would fear mortal people when we have an eternal God who comforts us.
"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
Yeshua teaches that we should not fear people who can only harm our physical bodies, but rather have reverent fear of God who has authority over our eternal destiny.
"In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
David expresses confidence that when we trust in God, we have no reason to fear what people can do to us.
"So we may boldly say: 'The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?'"
This New Testament echo of the Psalms encourages believers to speak boldly about their trust in God, removing fear of human opposition.
