Teaching: The River From Eden & The River From the Sanctuary

1) The two passages (quick overview)

Genesis 2:10–14 (Eden)

• A river goes out of Eden to water the garden.
• From there it “parts” and becomes four “heads” (four riverheads/branches).
• The four are named: Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel (Tigris), Euphrates.

Ezekiel 47:1–12 (Temple/Sanctuary)

• Water flows out from under the threshold of the House of YAHUAH.
• It deepens progressively (ankles → knees → loins → a river you can’t pass through).
• It flows to the Arabah and into the sea, healing the waters.
• Trees on both sides bring continual fruit; leaves are for healing.

2) Is there a comparison? Yes—by pattern and theology

These are not the same event in a simple “one-to-one” way, but Scripture gives strong reasons to compare them:

A) Both rivers flow from a holy source that represents YAHUAH’s presence

• Eden is portrayed as a set-apart place of original fellowship and life (Genesis 2).
• Ezekiel’s Temple is the set-apart center where YAHUAH’s glory returns (Ezekiel 43:1–7), and then life-giving water flows out (Ezekiel 47).

Teaching point: Where YAHUAH dwells, life flows.
