Ephesians 6:18 — “Supplications” (meaning)

In this verse, supplications means earnest, humble, specific requests made to Elohim/God—pleas that come from a place of need and dependence, not just general prayer.

• Prayer = the broader act of communicating with God (worship, thanks, confession, communion, etc.).
• Supplication = focused asking: “Father, I need Your help with this,” “Intervene here,” “Give wisdom,” “Strengthen,” “Deliver,” “Provide,” “Protect,” etc.

Paul pairs “prayer” and “supplication” to emphasize both constant prayer (“always… in the Spirit”) and specific, urgent requests, including interceding “for all the saints.”

Scripture Context

Ephesians 6:18 says:

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

This verse comes right after Paul describes the armor of Elohim. After truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, Paul immediately points believers back to prayer. The armor is not meant to be worn in self-strength. It is sustained through continual dependence on YAH.

So supplication is not casual asking. It is the humble, specific cry of someone who knows they need YAH’s wisdom, covering, strength, deliverance, and intervention.

Simple Definition

Supplication = a specific, earnest request made before YAH with humility, dependence, and faith.

It is prayer that says:

• “YAH, I need You here.”
• “YAH, please intervene in this situation.”
• “YAH, give me wisdom.”
• “YAH, strengthen me to obey.”
• “YAH, cover and protect Your people.”
• “YAH, deliver me from what is trying to rule me.”
